Bougainvillea Estate Wedding Bartending Tips

Wedding reception at Bougainvillea Estate

We recently bartended a 200 guest wedding at the beautiful Bougainvillea Estate in Indio. I have done a few weddings there and it is always a great venue to work from. Nearly every wedding I have done there, we have had the cocktail hour in the front of the house using a portable bar that either I brought, or the hosts rented. For this most recent wedding, we provided a six foot portable bar and two bartenders served the guests at cocktail hour, and then we moved to back fixed bar near the pool for the rest of the evening.

Ceremony across the pond

The ceremony took place across the pond from the front entrance to the property. The thing about weddings is that once the ceremony is over, a big line forms at the bar. In this case, we premade several of the two signature drinks before the cocktail hour, so guests could just walk up and grab them to keep the line moving. With good preparation 2 bartenders for hire handled the crowd very well. We then quickly moved everything to the back bar by the pool.

The Bougainvillea Estate has two large freezers in the garage stocked with plenty of ice. This is a huge advantage compared to most venues that have no place to store ice. A 200 guest wedding requires a lot of ice, and I think we went through at least 300 lbs. There is nothing worse than running out of ice during an event, and that is not a problem at the Bougainvillea Estate.

Top Notch Wedding Venue

  • Large secluded property with plenty of parking
  • Large freezers provided for ice storage
  • Built in bar near pool area
  • Large kitchen for use by caterers
  • Dining area by pool easily seats 200 guests
Cocktail hour in front of the Bougainvillea Estate

Both mobile bartenders were slammed during the cocktail hour, but service slowed down after that. We had a steady stream of customers during the speeches and as people were eating, but nothing two bartenders couldn’t easily handle. The two specialty drinks were a hit, and we also served beer, Soju, hard seltzers, and wine. Of course we had waves of people coming for celebratory shots. The DJ got the guests moving on the dance floor after dinner and at one point several guests jumped into the pool. Everybody seemed to have a great time.
