After 11 years in business, I finally got to bartend on a boat. A great girlfriend hired me to bartend her boyfriend’s 25th birthday party as we went on a 3 hour tour of the Port of Los Angeles, and we didn’t end up stranded on Gilligan’s Island. Out of nearly 30 guests onboard, nobody that I know of got seasick and everybody had a fantastic time. 

The boat was a 58 foot Hatteras Motor Yacht and it picked us up at the harbor in San Pedro. I was able to easily load my portable bar and set it up inside one of the covered areas inside the craft. The weather wasn’t that great on the day we went out and it was even supposed to rain, but luckily it didn’t. Had it rained, there was still ample room for everybody onboard to stay inside. There is another area on the outside deck, where the first mate said I could have placed the bar and I probably would have if the weather had been nicer. 

Somebody acted as the DJ and blasted music through the big speaker located on the boat. We cruised past the commercial docks of San Pedro, cruise ships, and sail boats cruising the harbor. The water was choppy in spots, but overall the ride was very smooth. We continued onto Long Beach, past the Queen Mary and the Vincent Thomas Bridge with stunning views of downtown Long Beach. Then we turned back and returned to San Pedro almost exactly three hours from when we started.
