Last weekend I drove to Idyllwild to bartend a wedding at Idyllwild Weddings and Events venue. It was my first time doing an event in Idyllwild, so I didn’t know what to expect of the drive or the view, or what was available as far as stores in the area in case I needed something. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the drive was and awed by the view. There even was a gas station/market within 3 miles of the venue.

Idyllwild is situated at a nearly 6000 foot elevation. The drive up there is relatively easy and the road is good. The owner of the venue gave me perfect directions – he told me that the venue was exactly 19.2 miles from where you exit the 8th Street Exit on the 10 Freeway in Banning. Once you pass the second Ranger station, it is the first driveway on the right. You can’t get much easier than that.

The wedding venue had a stunning view from the lawn where the ceremony was set up. A rustic wedding arch stands at the end of the yard, with the awesome view of the canyon below. The trees in these mountains are a bit different than the trees up in Big Bear. There are far more oaks growing in these mountains. It is a perfect backdrop for memorable wedding day, or any day photos. They do many more types of events than just weddings at the venue.

Preparation Made the Event go Smooth
I worked closely with the father of the bride leading up to the event. We came up with two Signature drinks, plus beer and wine. He didn’t want to hassle with the ice, so I provided ice service for an extra fee. I also provided a hydration station with water, ice tea, and lemonade, which proved to be very popular with the non alcoholic drinkers. There were 80 total guests in attendance, but only half of them were drinking alcohol. I served margaritas and sweet tea vodka, which complimented the barbecue served for dinner.

The owner, Rey was a great guy, and actually first came to the land where the venue sits as a foster child. The venue previously was a camp for foster children – now he owns it. A DJ setup a few feet from me and the dance floor was at the edge of the yard overlooking the canyon. There is no need to turn the music down up there, because the closest neighbor is miles away. If you want a rustic, secluded event, I highly recommend this venue. I already have another inquiry for a wedding there, and can’t wait to visit again.
